The Pain And the Gain We Had Selling a Timeshare

I decided to create this site after struggling with selling a timeshare I no longer needed and finally managing to get rid of it and even making a small profit. I thought my experience might be helpful to others in the same situation.

In 2004 I was came across what looked to be like a great deal on a timeshare. A timeshare sales agent approached us and explained about all the benefits of owning a timeshare. It sounded great! As we got older, we really wanted to have a place near the beach we could go to for holidays without spending time deciding on a destination, booking hotels, and finding out how to get there. We thought timeshare was the answer to this and we took the plunge.

Unfortunately, in reality it didn’t turn out to be that great of a deal. We spent quite a bit of our savings to purchase the timeshare and we wanted to use it as much as we could. However, we started running into all kinds of issues. The building was not maintained to the high standards we were promised. It was difficult to get the time slots we wanted. After a couple of years we also got bored of the place and tired of the problems, and stopped using it altogether.

As the recession hit, we also got short of money and decided we had to be selling a timeshare. The maintenance fees just kept coming and we didn’t have money to pay them. When we bought the timeshare, the agent said it was a great investment that will only grow in time. So we went back to the same company who sold us the timeshare and asked them to sell it for us. But now they told us it was very hard to sell, the prices have gone down, and in the end they didn’t want to do it! We were devastated.

We started researching different solutions, such as trying to sell directly to potential new owners. We managed to get some interest, but after spending nearly a year talking and emailing with different people, we still could not sell the property. We then decided to try selling our timeshare through different brokers that we found on the Internet. Big mistake! Not only were most of them absolutely useless, we ended up spending even more money that we didn’t have, since some required upfront fees and didn’t want to work without us paying them.

Finally, a friend recommended a timeshare company they used – they said they had good experience with them – no upfront fees, pleasant people to deal with, and most importantly the timeshare was sold in a couple of months at a good price. I was skeptical at first, but since it was recommended by a person I trusted, I decided to give it a try. Imagine how happy I was when our timeshare was gone in a matter of three months! And we even made a small profit compared to what we bought it for.  It’s rare to find a trustworthy company in this business, but these people really delivered on their promises.

I now decided to help others sell their timeshares and partnered with this company. If you would like to get a free no-obligation consultation from them, just click on their banner at the top of the page. I am sure they will be able to help you.

All my best,
Elizabeth Gordon
